FAQs
Let’s Clear Up the Confusion
We know that drainage, landscaping, and roofing projects come with plenty of questions—and we’re here to answer them. Whether you’re curious about timelines, scope, pricing, or our process, this FAQ page is designed to provide you with clear and honest insight into how we work. We believe good service starts with good communication, so we’ve compiled the most common questions our clients ask before, during, and after their projects. Our answers are detailed, transparent, and based on decades of experience working with Northern Virginia properties just like yours. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call or send a message. We’re happy to walk through your specific concerns and tailor solutions to your yard, budget, and goals.
How soon can you start after I approve a quote?
Project scheduling depends on the scope and seasonal demand, but we typically begin work within one to three weeks of approval. Smaller services, such as yard grading or gutter installation, may start sooner, while larger, multi-service builds might be scheduled slightly further out. We provide a clear timeline at the proposal stage so you know what to expect and can plan accordingly. We also keep you updated if weather or material delays impact timing. Our goal is to get started quickly—but without rushing. We only schedule work when we have the time, crew availability, and materials ready to deliver quality results without cutting corners. Once your project is on the calendar, you’ll receive a firm date, reminders, and crew arrival times. We pride ourselves on punctuality and will never “disappear” after a deposit. Clear scheduling, consistent communication, and no surprises—that’s how we keep projects moving and customers happy.
Can I combine multiple services into one project?
Absolutely—combining services is one of the most effective ways to save time, minimize site disruption, and enhance results. Many clients bundle drainage, landscaping, and hardscape work into one streamlined project. For example, we might install a French drain, reroute a sump pump discharge, reshape a yard, and lay new sod—all within a coordinated schedule. Bundling services also helps us ensure that each element of your property works with the others. We’ll review your goals during the consultation and help you prioritize what can (and should) be done together. You’ll receive a clear proposal, a single point of contact, and a unified solution. This reduces repeat site visits, avoids redundant digging, and makes for a cleaner, more efficient result. Whether it’s a single-day drainage installation or a multi-week backyard overhaul, we’re accustomed to coordinating across multiple crews and timelines. When it makes sense to combine services, we’ll make it happen—with less hassle and better results.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
While we don’t offer in-house financing, we’re happy to work with your preferred financing method and break projects into logical phases that fit your budget. For most projects, we require a deposit at contract signing, with the balance due upon completion. For larger or multi-phase projects, we can structure milestone-based payments tied to work progress. If you’re financing through a lender or home improvement program, we’ll provide the documentation and estimates needed to support your application. Some homeowners use HELOCs or personal financing to fund their project, and we’ll coordinate timing accordingly. Our estimates are transparent and itemized, so you know exactly what you’re paying for—and there are no surprise add-ons unless the scope changes and you approve it. We believe in honest pricing, flexible planning, and clear agreements. If you have questions about timing, budgets, or options, please don't hesitate to ask—we’ll work with you to find a solution that gets the job done right.
Will your work damage my lawn or existing landscaping?
We take great care to minimize disruption to your lawn, beds, and hardscape features during any project. Before we begin, we mark all sensitive areas, review your layout, and plan trench paths or access routes to avoid unnecessary damage. For drainage installations, we use compact trenchers and clean-hand tools when working near roots, utilities, or delicate plantings. After the installation, we backfill, tamp, and restore any affected areas with topsoil, seed, sod, or mulch, depending on the surface type. For large projects, we may suggest pairing service with lawn regrading or new sod for a full refresh. While any digging will temporarily disrupt the ground, we keep the work tight, clean, and well-managed. Our team is experienced in maintaining landscape integrity while completing technical installs. We treat your property with respect and work diligently to leave it in better condition than we found it—both visually and functionally.
What kind of warranty do you provide?
We stand behind our workmanship with clear warranties on most services. Drainage installations typically include a one-year workmanship warranty, and the materials used (such as pipe, connectors, or fixtures) are covered according to the manufacturer's guidelines. For hardscaping, we offer extended warranties on structural integrity and settling. If an issue arises that’s covered by warranty, we’ll return, assess, and fix it at no additional cost. Warranties apply only when our installation is unaltered and used as designed—natural disasters, third-party interference, or unrelated property changes may void coverage. Before starting work, we’ll outline exactly what’s covered, how to file a claim, and what to expect from post-project care. In short: if something goes wrong due to how we built it, we’ll make it right. We’ve built our business on accountability, and our warranty policy reflects that. You’ll never be left guessing—we clearly communicate our warranty terms and stand behind the quality of our work.
Are permits or inspections required for your work?
That depends on the type of service and your local jurisdiction. Most of our drainage, landscaping, and grading work does not require permits; however, certain structural installations, electrical work, or roofing projects may. When permits are needed, we’ll handle the research, submission, and scheduling of any required inspections. If we’re coordinating a roofing or electrical upgrade through a licensed partner, they’ll ensure the job is permitted and inspected per code. We stay informed of requirements in the counties and cities we serve, so you don’t have to guess. During your estimate, we’ll advise on whether a permit is likely needed and what timeline to expect. We never perform unpermitted work where code requires it, and we build to pass inspection from the ground up. Our goal is to keep your project legal, safe, and fully documented—so you can move forward with confidence and compliance.
Do you work with HOAs or property management groups?
Yes—we routinely coordinate with HOAs, property managers, and community associations to obtain approval, schedule meetings, and ensure compliance. If your home is in an HOA-regulated neighborhood, we can provide all required diagrams, scope details, and contractor information to streamline your approval process. We’re familiar with common HOA concerns such as runoff redirection, visible drainage components, and access planning. We also adjust our scheduling and site cleanup to align with community guidelines, minimizing disruptions to neighbors. For townhome clusters or shared property lines, we coordinate with adjacent owners and ensure proper flow does not impact neighboring yards. If your HOA requires advance notice or visual documentation, just let us know—we’ve worked in dozens of regulated communities and know how to get approval quickly and smoothly. The same applies to rental properties or community-managed lots—we’ll handle communication and compliance so your project meets all required standards from start to finish.
What happens if it rains during my project?
We monitor the weather closely before and during every project. Light rain typically won’t stop us—but heavy rain, saturated ground, or storm warnings may require us to pause or reschedule for safety and quality reasons. We never install drainage, grading, or hardscape materials on overly wet soil that could compromise performance. If rain delays work, we will communicate with you immediately and reschedule at the earliest available opening. Your project is always protected in the meantime—open trenches are covered, materials are secured, and runoff is managed to prevent damage. We build in buffers during scheduling to accommodate weather swings and keep things moving. For longer projects, we check forecasts daily and plan staging to minimize risk. If delays occur, we’ll explain the cause, update the timeline, and make sure no step is rushed or skipped. Your project’s quality and your property’s safety are our top priorities—rain or shine.
What if I’m unsure exactly which service I need?
That’s completely normal—many clients aren’t sure where the problem starts or what service will solve it. That’s why we offer free consultations and walkthroughs. When we visit your property, we assess visible symptoms (like pooling, runoff, erosion, or lawn decline) and then look deeper at grading, drainage paths, roof connections, and more. Based on our findings, we recommend the most effective solution—not the most expensive one. We also provide multiple options whenever possible, allowing you to make an informed decision based on your goals and budget. You’ll never be pressured to buy more than you need, and we’re happy to phase a project if appropriate. If it turns out that you need a service we don’t offer in-house—such as electrical upgrades or waterproofing—we’ll refer you to a trusted specialist and coordinate as needed. You don’t need to have it all figured out—that’s our job. We’ll guide you from problem to solution.
